Logic puzzles ask you to find a rule and apply it. Below are two kinds you can play right now: number patterns, where you work out what comes next, and clue chains, where you order items from a handful of comparisons. Every puzzle is generated fresh, and every answer comes with the reasoning.
What is a pattern recognition puzzle?
A pattern recognition puzzle shows a short sequence and asks for the next item. The skill is not arithmetic; it is noticing which relationship holds between neighbours. The most common rules are a fixed step (add 7 each time), a multiplier (double each time), alternating steps (+3, +8, +3, +8) and steps that themselves grow (+2, +3, +4).
Harder patterns hide two sequences inside one. Read every other term and each half often turns out to be simple on its own.
How to solve number sequence puzzles
Write down the gaps between neighbours first. If the gaps are equal, the rule is a fixed step. If the gaps double, the terms are doubling. If the gaps grow by one each time, the next gap is one larger again. If the gaps rise by two each time (1, 3, 5, 7…), you are looking at square numbers.
If the gaps look random, check alternate terms before trying anything clever.
How to solve clue-chain logic puzzles
A clue chain gives comparisons such as “Teal is heavier than Slate” and asks which item is heaviest or lightest. Rewrite every clue in the same direction, heavier on the left, then link them: if Amber > Teal and Teal > Slate, then Amber > Teal > Slate.
A shortcut: the heaviest item is the one that never appears on the lighter side of any clue.
